mont-megantic observatory
Inaugurated in 1978 and located at an altitude of 1100 metres, the Observatoire du Mont-Mégantic (OMM) houses a 1.6m telescope and many high-level instruments.
ASTRONOMY RESEARCH CENTRE
The Mont-Mégantic Observatory, the fourth largest in the country, but better equipped and still spared from light pollution, is the most efficient in Canada. Around him is a research centre in astronomy, in which the Université de Montréal, Université Laval and McGill University are involved.
popular astronomy Festival
Every afternoon in the summer, ASTROLab hosts visits to the Astronomical Observatory. In the evening, the Astronomical Observatory is exclusively dedicated to research. However, there is an exception to this rule! A few nights a year, the Observatory’s large telescope is accessible to the public, during the Festival d’astronomie Populaire du Mont-Mégantic.
During the Festival, research instruments are replaced by an eyepiece that allows visual observation with the public. During the other evenings of the year, ASTROLab organizes astronomy evenings with its Popular Observatory.
